Students Kalyn Barnoski and Brandon Irby are bringing a new aspect of music and art culture to Rogers State University by hosting an outdoor concert on campus.

The “Farewell Show” will be held on Thursday, May 3 beginning at 7:00pm at the amphitheater in the RSU Educational Nature Reserve located on the Claremore campus.

All students, faculty and staff along with members of the community are invited to attend. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted. All proceeds will go to benefit area non-profit organizations.

“This was my dream. When we started at The Basementtwo years ago, I wanted a way to bring activism and art together,” said Barnokski, co-founder of The Basement which is an artist collective sponsored by the Baptist Collegiate Ministry.

The concert lineup includes four area bands featuring students of Rogers State University. Performances will include: Monty Wu, Jordan Herrera, Good Morning Grizzly and Brother Rabbit.

Students on campus are already anticipating the event. “It’s great to see live music on the campus. A concert on campus is something that really brings students together and shows just how diverse college life and college music can be,” said Cody Nix, RSU student and Music Director for 91.3 FM Real College Radio.

Given the momentum built during The Basment’s two year stint, there is a bright future for student-run, university backed artistic initiatives on campus. “My hope is that what we’ve accomplished here will serve as a catalyst for future events that encourage and promote a creative culture on campus,” noted Barnoski.
