RSU Radio Goes Theatre!

RSU Radio staff members Josh Gammon, David Prock, and Garrett Powders will attend the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival February 25 – March 3 in Shreveport, Louisiana with the RSU Theatre Program to compete for scholarship awards.

Garrett Powders was nominated for an Irene Ryan Award for his role as Baltus Van Tassel in RSU’s original production of “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow”. He will compete for several acting scholarships offered by the festival. Other Irene Ryan Award nominees include RSU students Hannah Westlund, Andrew Grimes, Katie Hoffman, and Adam Eagleburger.

Josh Gammon and David Prock will compete as scene partners in the Irene Ryan competition, but are also up for playwriting awards for “Sleepy Hollow”. They have already been awarded for Excellence in Playwriting by the Kennedy Center. Michael Robinson and Hannah Hanley were also honored for their design work.

Started in 1969 by Roger L. Stevens, the Kennedy Center’s founding chairman, the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF) is a national theater program involving 18,000 students from colleges and universities nationwide which has served as a catalyst in improving the quality of College Theater in the United States. The KCACTF has grown into a network of more than 600 academic institutions throughout the country, where theater departments and student artists showcase their work and receive outside assessment by KCACTF respondents.
