Bandcamp Honors Juneteenth

todayJune 16, 2020

Since the start of the pandemic, the music streaming and sharing site Bandcamp has worked to support artists and musicians.  On the 155th anniversary of Juneteenth, they are standing with the Black community by donating 100% of their share of sales to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund.

Bandcamp is committing to continued action by repeating this donation every Juneteenth. An additional thirty-thousand dollars of their yearly budget will be put towards partnering with organizations that support people of color and fight racial inequality. From the Bandcamp site:

The current moment is part of a long-standing, widespread, and entrenched system of structural oppression of people of color, and real progress requires a sustained and sincere commitment to political, social, and economic racial justice and change. We’ll continue to promote diversity and opportunity through our mission to support artists, the products we build to empower them, who we promote through the Bandcamp Daily, our relationships with local artists and organizations through our Oakland space, how we operate as a team, and who and how we hire.

Those looking to support the NAACP Legal Defense Fund and musicians alike can purchase from the Bandcamp website midnight to midnight on the 19th.
