Singles For The Weekend: July 24th

todayJuly 25, 2020

Background

Check out this week’s newest singles, get to know them, maybe even hear them on RSU Radio.

Death Valley Girls – “The Universe”

Death Valley Girls have a haunting new rock track for us. It’s powerful, yet laid back. There’s some saxophoning across the track that’ll have even the frostiest hearts melting. With the release of the single, Death Valley Girls announced their upcoming “space gospel” record, Under the Spell of Joy, out October 2nd.

Gabe Goodman – “Immortals”

With a title that sounds like a Twilight fan-fiction, this single is a tender and poppy exploration of Goodman’s feelings in a relationship.

Bartees Strange – “Mustang”

After releasing the slightly-addicting Say Goodbye to Pretty Boy earlier this year, Strange is back with a single for his upcoming album.  The track is not a romanticization of his hometown, but a reflection and rejection of the way it left him feeling.

Samia – “Big Wheel”

This one’s lighter, a little summer-ier than some of the more charged tracks this weekend.  Samia’s taking a breezy sound that fits a sunny coming-of-age film. Her upcoming record releases in late August.

Of Monsters and Men

Ever wanted to hear Post Malone but in a soft, tender, wedding-appropriate ballad? This one’s for you.

Slow Pulp – “Idaho”

“Idaho” is the lead single for Slow Pulp’s upcoming Moveys, due early October.  The band scrapped their original debut record for this one, written after singer/guitarist Emily Massey was diagnosed with Lyme Disease. Although lyrics lean a little bleak, the song ultimately sounds hopeful.

lovelytheband – idwgtyp

While the title may appear confusing, it’s incredibly relatable. Short for I Don’t Wanna Go To Your Party, the track is the first from the soon-to-be-released conversations with myself about you.

Sylvan Esso – “Ferris Wheel”

Sylvan Esso’s newest single is neon and built for dancing. The upcoming record Free Love is slated for late September.
